The state-run company shared the preliminary figures in a statement on Monday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

EUR 21m in profit, EUR 1.7bn in revenue, 8m passengers, 85,000 flights

LOT said: “The LOT board forecasts that the company made a net profit of over PLN 100 million (EUR 21 million) in 2022. The national airline achieved this result thanks to carrying eight million passengers and making more than PLN 8 billion (EUR 1.7 billion) in revenue.”

LOT’s aircraft made over 85,000 flights last year, the company added.

Michał Fijoł, a LOT board member, told reporters: “We predict that our operations generated more than PLN 100 million in net profit.”

He added: “Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, LOT has been focused on taking maximum advantage of market opportunities. That’s why we were able to effectively benefit from the return of business passengers to air travel and from the recovery that took place in recent months.”

Direct flights to Mumbai, Cairo, Baku

LOT said 2022 saw the launch of new direct flights to Mumbai, India, Cairo, Egypt and Baku, Azerbaijan.

The statement added: “In addition, after a long break, LOT restored regular flights to Beijing, China. As ever, LOT connects Poland with central and eastern Europe, as well as America and Asia. During the summer season, LOT aircraft flew to the US almost 50 times a week.”

LOT also achieved “excellent results” from flights to Tel Aviv, Israel and Istanbul, Turkey, it said.

The overall number of LOT’s flight connections stood at 167 at the end of 2022, including both regular and charter flights, according to the PAP news agency.

The company will announce its final 2022 results following a statutory audit, which is expected to finish in the second quarter of this year, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
