Polish retail sales 5% down y/y in February: stats office

Retail sales in Poland went down by 5 percent in February at constant prices compared with the same month a year earlier, the country’s statistics office reported on Tuesday.

Sales of clothing and shoes increased 9.9 percent last month in year-on-year terms, and those of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics rose by 2.7 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

Meanwhile, sales of food, beverages and tobacco products went down by 4.6 percent, and those of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics decreased 10.3 percent, according to Statistics Poland.

In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 10.8 percent higher than in February 2022, Statistics Poland said.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in February were 3.6 percent lower than in January, the statistics office also reported.
