While the European Union stated that it would respond to Trump's decision with “firm and proportionate countermeasures,” Brussels veteran Donald Tusk advocated a diplomatic approach, emphasizing that the bloc should react in a measured way.
“It is worth doing everything possible to avoid unnecessary trade and tariff wars,” said Tusk, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the EU.
“This always brings negative consequences for both producers and consumers,” he added.
