The heating system outage began on Wednesday, leaving many homes without warmth in freezing temperatures (27°F/-3°C, feeling like 17°F/-8°C). The cause of the failure is still under investigation.

“Heat supply to Gdynia residents connected to the municipal heating network was cut off until late at night,” said a spokesperson for the city’s heating provider.

Officials estimate that hot water service will not be restored before Wednesday afternoon as crews work to repair the damage. Water tankers are being deployed to provide emergency access for schools, preschools, and other institutions.
