Smart Impex GmbH is a wholesaler of IT products based in the western German town of Kerpen, according to biznesalert.pl.

The company is suspected of exporting USD 15.5 million worth of IT and electrical goods to Russia, Germany’s Tagesschau TV news programme reported, as quoted by biznesalert.pl.

German components in Russian rockets

Smart Impex GmbH used to sell electronic components to a Turkish company, and the parts later turned up in rockets used by Russia to bomb Ukraine, according to the German current-affairs TV programme Monitor, biznesalert.pl reported.

Monitor identified one of the owners of Smart Impex GmbH as Jaroslaw Z, and further established that the man is also the founder of a Moscow-based firm, Fast Impex, according to biznesalert.pl.

Germany to Russia via Turkey

The German company would send its electronic components, which are subject to international restrictions on trade with Russia, from Kerpen initially to Turkey.

But the parts would then find their way to Fast Impex in Moscow, and later be used by the Russian arms industry, biznesalert.pl reported.

Friday is day 352 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
