Polish retail sales 0.3% down y/y in January: stats office

Retail sales in Poland went down by 0.3 percent in January at constant prices compared with the same month a year earlier, the country’s statistics office reported on Tuesday.

Sales of clothing and shoes increased 15.7 percent last month in year-on-year terms, and those of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics rose by 1.9 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

Meanwhile, sales of food, beverages and tobacco products went down by 1.7 percent, and those of fuels decreased 12.3 percent, according to Statistics Poland.

In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 15.1 percent higher than in January 2022, Statistics Poland said.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in January were 23.1 percent lower than in December, the statistics office also reported.
