"Today, we are symbolically opening a major investment worth 30 billion PLN with a capacity of 1.5 GW. This goes beyond previous measures and perceptions of wind power plants. We are talking about the largest turbines in the world and the future of Poland’s energy, as this huge investment is only a part of a gigantic project for Polish energy," said Prime Minister Tusk in Warsaw on Thursday.

The Polish Prime Minister added that the wind farm will be located about 40 km off the coast, ensuring that "it will not disturb anyone."

The politician noted that, as a resident of the Pomerania region, this is "quite important" to him. He assured that the investors have taken care to ensure that the environment and the region's tourist attractions will not suffer due to the massive project.

Poland's wind energy initiative set to transform the region

“It’s important to realize that this is just part of the project. By 2040 — and that’s not such a distant future — we’re aiming for 18 GW from wind,” Tusk announced. He emphasized that this would be equivalent to the energy produced by four nuclear power plants.

PM Tusk also pointed out that "Poland can really be a leader of growth and a leader of European optimism."

The wind farm will cover an area of about 190 square kilometers, located 40 km off the Polish coast, between Ustka and Choczewo, and will consist of 107 turbines, each with a capacity of 14 MW.

The project's value is around 30 billion PLN (7.14 billion EUR or 7.44 billion USD), with Poland’s involvement (PGE) amounting to around 15 billion PLN (3.57 billion EUR or 3.72 billion USD). Approximately 6 billion PLN (1.43 billion EUR or 1.49 billion USD) comes from the National Recovery Plan. The wind farm is expected to start operations in 2027.

Baltica 2 - one of the world's largest offshore wind farms

Baltica 2 is an offshore wind farm project with a capacity of around 1.5 GW, set to become one of the largest wind farms in the world. The investment is being carried out by the Polish Energy Group (PGE) and Ørsted, a Danish company specializing in offshore wind energy, with the Danish state being its majority shareholder.
