The world No. 2 had been aiming for her third title in California but was unable to overcome the ninth-seeded Andreeva.

Świątek had won their first meeting but has now lost twice to the 17-year-old, including a quarterfinal defeat in Dubai in February, where Andreeva went on to claim her first WTA 1000 title as the youngest champion in the tournament category’s history.

Andreeva will face world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final after the Belarusian dominated Madison Keys 6-0, 6-1 in the other semifinal.
