The competition is open to radio, print, and television journalists, as well as students. It is named after Melchior Wańkowicz, one of Poland’s most distinguished 20th-century reporters, writers, and publicists, who passed away in 1974.
This year, awards will be presented in eight categories, with a total prize pool exceeding 100,000 PLN. Winners will be announced on March 27 during a gala at the Agnieszka Osiecka Polish Radio Music Studio. Organizers emphasize that the competition aims to promote high-quality reporting and journalism.
A panel of experienced journalists and acclaimed Polish reporters, including Karolina Wigura, Tomasz Sekielski, Magdalena Rigamonti, and Paweł Reszka, will evaluate the entries. Jury member Bartosz Panek highlighted that the assessment will consider not only facts and storytelling but also the narrative structure, recording quality, and universal impact of the reports.
This year's edition is particularly significant as it coincides with Polish Radio’s 100th anniversary, offering an opportunity to highlight the role of reporting in public media. Submissions can be sent to melchiory@polskieradio.pl.
