After the talks, Tusk said he and Starmer shared the same views on Russia's war against Ukraine and on how to support Kyiv against Moscow's ongoing invasion.

He said: "With the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, we share the same views on the situation in Ukraine, Russian aggression, and what needs to be done to support Ukraine."

Tusk and Starmer also discussed international security, defence cooperation and transatlantic relations during their meeting in the Polish capital on Friday, according to officials.

At a joint news conference, Tusk said: "I greatly appreciate the growing partnership between Poland and the United Kingdom in energy, security, and the defence industry."

He told reporters that, during its presidency of the European Union in the first half of 2025, Poland was aiming "to strengthen the relationship between the EU and the UK, especially in security and defence."

He declared: "I’m confident there will be no obstacles. The Polish presidency will support all positive developments in this area."

Earlier in the day, Starmer met with Polish President Andrzej Duda.

The Polish President's Office said in a social media post that Duda's talks with Starmer focused on "bilateral relations, including the excellent cooperation between the Polish and British defence industries."

The British leader arrived in Warsaw from Kyiv, where he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday signed an agreement on a "100-year partnership" between the two countries, including in security and health protection, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Russia invaded Ukraine by land, air and sea on February 24, 2022, starting the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.

Friday is day 1,058 of Russia's war on Ukraine.
